Anatomy & Gesture Drawing
This class aligns with CPALMS Standard Figure Drawing (# 0104410)
Figure Anatomy and Gesture Drawing
Take your figure drawing to the next level! Learn human and animal anatomy, portraiture, and dynamic gesture drawing through a kinesthetic approach. Learn how to “see in slow-motion”. Capture movement, energy, and story in a single image—skills practiced by artists at Disney Studios. Perfect for animators, illustrators, and portfolio development.
This class builds on the skills developed in the Drawing Essentials classes and focuses on human proportions, portraiture, and animal anatomy, with a strong emphasis on gesture drawing to create strong, dynamic poses and expressions.
Gesture drawing is essential for artists, as it quickly captures the energy, movement, and essence of any subject—not just humans. Regular practice develops an intuitive understanding of action and form, making it invaluable for animators, illustrators, and artists preparing professional portfolios.
This costumed figure drawing class emphasizes storytelling through a single image and is designed around first-hand techniques taught at Disney Studios, giving students practical, industry-informed instruction.

This class aligns with CPALMS Standard Film 3 Honors (#0107430)
2D Hand-Drawn Animation
This class provides a comprehensive introduction to the principles of animation, combining traditional drawing skills with modern digital tools. Students will learn to construct characters using 2D and 3D geometric forms, developing a strong sense of structure, volume, and dimensionality in their designs.
Through hands-on projects *, students will explore the core principles of animation—such as timing, squash and stretch, anticipation, follow-through, overlapping action, and slow in/slow out—to create believable characters, dynamic motion, and engaging scenes. Emphasis is placed on character performance, gesture, and expressive storytelling.

Produce animated sequences through linear progression of drawings
*Projects and exercises include:
Pendulum and ball studies (bouncy ball, bowling ball, balloon drop)
S-curve and C-curve motion like Book Pages and Cat Tails
Smear frames and character takes
Candle flame and environmental effects
